Course Overview

A BTEC in Engineering is a great choice for pupils looking for a practical and creative qualification. The course aims to provide students with the relevant skills and knowledge that employers value, as well as the confidence to progress into a fulfilling, exciting career. Engineering covers a broad variety of roles, and it involves the application of scientific principles and practical knowledge to transform ideas and materials into products and systems safely and support them during their lifetime. This qualification has a focus on a broad range of engineering specialist areas.

Unit 1: Engineering Principles and Mathematics
Unit 2: Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team
Unit 3: Engineering Product Design and Manufacture

Assessment Methods

The course has a mixture of internal and external assessments. Two thirds of the course is externally assessed.

Unit 1:

Externally assessed - One paper lasting 2 hours - 33% of marks.

Unit 2:

Three internally assessed assignments - 17% of marks.

Unit 3:

Externally assessed - supervised assessment period of 8 hours to be completed within a 5 day period - 33% of marks.

Unit 4:

Internal assessment based on option.

We offer master classes at the Royal institute, Hertfordshire University engineering projects (high performance vehicles), Extensive CAD/CAM experience within local industry, opportunities to visit World class manufacturing.

Progression

From this general Engineering course pupils will be able to branch out into any of the individual disciplines, including: Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering.
