Course Overview

Businesses create wealth for individuals and the country. In 2022 61% of UK employment was due to small and medium enterprises. This course has been designed to cover a broad range of fields, be knowledge based with practical elements which will allow progression to employment, a higher apprenticeship or university.

This course is ideal for students who are passionate about business and are either planning on starting up their own business or pursuing a career in business. It is a subject that requires students to learn theories, apply them to real businesses through their research, and assess their effectiveness. Through the use of real-life business scenarios, you will develop an awareness of the business world, and be able to analyse the steps needed to be taken to be successful in the industry. You will develop your skills of independent learning, team work, research, problem solving, communication and organisation.

Students will take 4 units in total, including 3 compulsory units:

  • Exploring business
  • Developing a marketing campaign
  • Personal & Business Finance (exam)

They will also take 1 optional unit, choosing from:

  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Investigating Customer service
  • Creative Product Promotion
  • Pitching for a New Business
  • Training and Development
  • Market research

Assessment Methods

Assessment within this course has a variety of modes. Two units will be internally assessed through coursework. The other units being studied require two external examinations.

Unit 2

Developing a Marketing Campaign - case study based (in two parts) out of 70 marks, and 5 hours in length.

Unit 3

Personal and Business Finance (2 examinations) - Written examination, 2 hours, 100 marks and Written examination,  2 hours, 80 marks.

Progression

Many Business students progress to careers in finance, sales, human resource management and marketing. It is also excellent for a range of management roles in the private or public sectors.
