Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs including English Language and Mathematics at grades 3 or above. The following courses will be considered at Level 2 Pass or above:

  • NCFE Health & Fitness
  • OCR Sport Studies
  • BTEC Sport Studies
  • GCSE PE (Grade 4 - 9)

In order to join our football academy, students must demonstrate a sufficient level of football ability combined with a keen interest in sport, health & fitness and football.

Course Overview

Our BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is perfect if you are solely interested in sports performance, sports participation and the sports industry, led by teachers with excellent professional, academic and practical backgrounds within the sports industry.

This course is ideal for students who want to study sport full time as a 2 year programme of study. The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in future employment in sport and related industries. You will cover units such as; Anatomy and Physiology (this unit is externally assessed via an exam), Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing and Sports Leadership to name a few. You will enjoy learning more about what goes on behind the scenes of sports, different career paths for you to take and which aspect of sport you would like to focus on in the future.

Assessment Methods

Overall the course consists of 14 units (10 mandatory and 4 optional), covering a variety of sports related units, including anatomy, psychology, sports development, coaching and nutrition to name a few.

Out of the 14 units studied, 4 units are assessed through examination and the other 10 units are assessment through a variety of coursework submissions, consisting of written reports, presentation assignments projects and practical assessments which are set at regular intervals throughout the course.

As part of our QE6 Extras, students will benefit from a variety of sport, health & fitness opportunities available to them, including:

  • Refereeing/Officiating Qualifications

  • Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award
  • Oxbridge CV Writing Course. 

Additionally, learners will be able to attend regular sports clubs, have access to our sport and fitness facilities and participate in our sports trips, including stadium tours and fixtures.

Progression

Upon completion, this qualification will give students the knowledge and skills needed that ultimately applies towards a variety of desired pathways, including progression to higher education and employment within the sports industry. It also provides professional sports opportunities, including USA Sport Scholarship pathways.

Students studying BTEC Sport have entered professions such as Sports Development, Sports Science, PE Teaching, Personal Training, Sports Coaching, Sports Nutrition and Sports Psychology.
