4 GCSEs grade 4 and above (minimum English GCSE grade 3 or maths GCSE grade 3)

 

Course Overview

This qualification enables you to develop a combination of knowledge, skills and behaviours to enter employment as a Community Activity Leader at entry level. The course also provides a strong foundation for students to achieve full occupational competence with further training and development in the workplace.

This qualification will:

  • develop your ability and confidence to apply the knowledge, skills and behaviours in carrying out the relevant occupational duties and functions to meet entry level competence.
  • develop your transferable skills and professional behaviours/attributes such as communication, organisation, reliability, and inclusiveness that are essential to personal effectiveness in the stated occupation.
  • develop your knowledge and understanding of best practice and core values such as collaboration, safety and security of participants, and inclusivity.

 

 

Assessment Methods

This is a BTEC and comprises two externally set exams and 4 further internally assessed assignment briefs.

You will study the following units:

  • Unit 1: Working in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
  • Unit 2: Roles and Responsibilities of a Community Activity Leader
  • Unit 3: Planning and Promoting Community Activities
  • Unit 4: Working as a Community Activity Leader

Each unit will be assessed through the completion and submission of written and practical assignments/tasks.

You will be assessed regularly on your performance and you will produce a portfolio of evidence which will contain:

  • observations by your assessors of your performance, records of your work
  • witness testimony by people who have seen you at work
  • records of questions, discussions and your answers
  • simulations you have taken part in.
  • Assignments that will be assessed and graded pass, merit and distinction

Progression

This is a level 2 course that will enable students to progress on to level 3 courses if they choose to. Additionally, successful students can progress on to career paths including sports coaching and work in the fitness industry.

Progression to level 3 courses available to further study and offer opportunities for higher level apprenticeships within the career paths.
