- GCSE English; Grade 6, GCSE Maths; Grade six and GCSE Grade 5 or above in any social science subject
Course Overview
Economics A level (A) equips students with the necessary skills, and theoretical knowledge required to interpret economic trends, analyse the role of economics in their immediate/wider society and evaluate economic policies incorporated by different governments. By engaging with trending, relevant economic events and applying economic principles to practical case study scenarios, students would gain specific knowledge and transferable skills that are important in problem solving, data interpretation, and independent thinking.
Assessment Methods
The Economics A Level with Edexcel is a two-year course. Students will sit external examinations at the end of the second year.
- Paper 1: Markets and business behaviour (Written Paper): 35% - will assess microeconomics and questions will be drawn from Themes 1 and 3. This is a 2 hour long written paper.
- Paper 2: The national and global economy (Written Paper): 35% - will assess macroeconomics and questions will be drawn from Themes 2 and 4. This is a 2 hour long written paper.
- Paper 3: Microeconomics and macroeconomics (Written Paper): 30% - will assess content across all four themes. This is a 2hour long written paper.

You will be part of the Economics department, a budding department active in organising enrichment activities. We organise various activities throughout the year such as University trips.
Economics students are encouraged to take part in taster days, competitions and other trips and activities that are on offer.
Progression
You can go on to study a degree in Economics, Finance, Investment Banking, Data Analysis, Corporate Law, or related fields like Politics and International Relations. Economics graduates have highly marketable skills, particularly in analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making.
